The buckwheat galettes are large enough to spill over the edges of the plate, with a crisp, toasted crust and a distinctive savoury aroma. Known as the sister restaurant of Kawaguchi’s popular Japanese restaurant Hijika, uca Uka serves savoury galettes and dessert crêpes, along with prepared foods and baked goods made with care for their ingredients. Hearty options include a classic filling of free-range egg, bacon and cheese, as well as a combination of salmon and rocket.

For something sweet, try the chewy crêpes or the tempting selection of baked goods. Choices include a crêpe topped with a rich, bitter chocolate terrine, carrot cake layered with cream cheese and flecked with pieces of carrot, and crumbly wholemeal scones. The flavours of the ingredients and spices come through clearly. A gently spiced medicinal-herb cola syrup, served with soda, makes a pleasant pairing, as does coffee.

The calm interior has tables and seating on the 2 floor, making it a relaxed stop for lunch or a place to pick up food to take away. Organic ingredients and prepared foods are also displayed at the shop, so you can browse after a meal or choose something to take home.
